- Heat damage: hot water washes + high-heat dryer cycles tighten the cotton, fade the dye, and lift DTG ink off the surface. Most owners do this for the first year, then wonder why their hoodie looks five years old.
- Friction abrasion: washing right-side-out means the print rubs against everything else in the load. Each cycle removes some ink. Inside-out flips the abrasion to the inside fabric — invisible.

The inside of the hoodie isn't pressed against other garments during the wash. The outside (with the print) is. Flipping inside-out means abrasion happens on the inside fabric, not on the graphic. Adds 30 seconds to laundry, doubles the print lifespan.
Skip fabric softener
Softener coats cotton fibers and dulls the natural texture. It also coats DTG ink, which makes the print look hazy after 10-15 cycles. Use half-dose normal detergent instead. If the hoodie feels stiff, run a vinegar rinse cycle every 3-4 washes.
Hang dry whenever possible — tumble low if not
High heat is the #1 enemy of heavyweight cotton fit. Three hot dryer cycles will visibly tighten the dropped-shoulder cut. If you must use a dryer, run on lowest heat, pull out at 80% dry, and hang the rest. Saves the silhouette.
Iron from inside only
Direct iron heat lifts DTG ink within 3-4 wears. Always flip the hoodie inside-out before pressing, OR use a thick pressing cloth on top of the print. The heat passes through to the cotton without touching the ink directly.
Wood hangers, never wire
Wire hangers leave permanent bumps in heavy-shoulder hoodies within months. Wood hangers (even the cheapest IKEA ones) distribute weight across the full shoulder. If you can't switch your closet, fold heavy hoodies on a shelf instead — folded > wire-hung every time.
Fabric shaver after 10-15 wears
